Fall 2017 Season

The Columbus Coyotes RFC had an exciting fall 2017 season which including playing two of our fellow International Gay Rugby teams, six games overall and our annual bachelor auction.

In the middle of October, we traveled to St. Louis to play the Crusaders who once again showed their wonderful hospitality.  Some of our team members were hosted overnight by their players and many Coyote players were able to go on a bar crawl with the Crusaders on Saturday night.  Our long travels to St. Louis also paid off on the pitch as were able to secure a win.  The Coyotes also were able to play in a closely fought match against the Nashville Grizzlies of IGR, this time at home.  The highly physical match featured several lead changes but ultimately the Coyotes prevailed.  Shortly after the match, we all raised a beer at our third half, where the Coyotes sadly lost the boat race.

On November 3rd the Coyotes could be seen in force at Axis Nightclub in the Short North of Columbus for our Annual Bachelor Auction.  We had over 20 players get auctioned off in order to send the Coyotes to Amsterdam to play in the Bingham Cup.  The Bingham Cup is an International Gay Rugby tournament which is played every two years in honor of Mark Bingham, a hero who lost his life on 9/11 as one of the passengers who fought back against the terrorists on the plane that crashed near Shanksville Pennsylvania.  The Bachelor Auction helped us raise money towards helping make the trip affordable, and we’ll look forward to our spring fundraiser, the Columbus Coyotes Drag Show, to help us send even more players to the Netherlands.

And now as our calendar has flipped over to February, we are getting ready for our 2018 season.  We have a couple exciting games against fellow IGR teams and even a tournament in Madison before we ship off to Europe for the Bingham Cup in June.  Our attention first focuses on Rugby 101, which serves as our first practice as well as a great introduction to rugby for players new to rugby as well as players new to our team.  If you are interested in coming out, email us at columbuscoyotesrfc@gmail.com with the subject line “Interested in Joining.” We’ll hope to see you there.
